Disaster exercise
The Van Wert American Red Cross chapter’s Disaster Team went to Payne in Paulding County this past weekend to assist that county with its annual disaster exercise. During the exercise, a vehicle reportedly collides with a semi containing hazardous materials. The hazardous materials then leaked into a nearby ditch and affected the local community. “It’s always fun getting out and practicing with local emergency responders,” said Red Cross Disaster Chairman Mark Klausing. “It is so important to work with them and get to know each one, so when “The Big One” (disaster) comes, we are in synch and can react faster to protect our community.” With temperatures in the 90s, water and Gatorade were flowing during the exercise, which also included several state officials.
