Helen Iona Hurless

Helen Iona Hurless, 94, of Rockford, passed away at 5:25 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016, at the Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford.

She was born October 18, 1921, in Mercer County, the daughter of John Asa Logan and Martha Luella (Raver) Book, who both preceded her in death. On June 22, 1940, she married John Rutledge and he died November 10, 1992. On September 12, 1997, she married William E. Hurless Sr., who survives in Rockford.

Other survivors include a son, the Rev. Mark (Kathy) Rutledge of Rockford; one daughter, Sherrill (Richard) Gibbs of Babson Park, Florida; a sister, Pauline Sell of Rockford; one stepdaughter, Connie (John) Crowe; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. A daughter-in-law Linda Rutledge, survives in Stryker, as well as a sister-in-law, Gerrie Akom.

A son, Tim Rutledge; four brothers, John, Russell, Bill, and Rea Book; two sisters, Mae Thomas and Olive Leighner; and a stepson, William E. Hurless Jr., also preceded her in death.

Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, a Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with Pastor Dave Souers officiating.

Visitation is from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
