Town Creek Live festival coming in July

Wassenberg Art Center and Main Street Van Wert will host their second annual Town Creek Live (formerly Eats on the Streets) festival on Saturday, July 9. The festival will feature 11 gourmet food trucks and a duck “derpy”, where participants have a chance to win $1,000, $400, $100 and other prizes as ducks race down Van Wert’s Town Creek.

The event will feature two outdoor bands, Dan Smythe Band of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and The Holbrook Brothers Band of Montpelier, as well as local disc jockey Real Human Robot. Musicians performing inside the art center are Sam Dell of Bryan and Aubrey Gebert of Van Wert.

Throughout the event, street performers and buskers, such as Pyroscope of Fort Wayne, will be performing. There will also be a magician, caricaturist, art activities for children, an outdoor pop-up art exhibit, and an interactive art exhibit entitled “Get in the Swing” that will feature functional artist-decorated swings hanging from the Wassenberg Art Center’s gallery and walls.

Swings will be sold via silent auction and the winning swing, determined by popular vote, will be installed on the Wassenberg Art Center grounds and the artist will receive $200. Beer, wine, and other spirits will be available during the event on the art center grounds.

The second annual Duck “Derpy” will launch at 6:15 p.m. with duck sales ending at 5 that evening. Interested persons are encouraged to purchase ducks early, as supplies are limited. A portion of the duck derby proceeds will be donated to The Recking Crew, a local high school athletic booster club. Event sponsors are Braun Industries, Harvest the Wind, Long Prairie Wind, Northwest Ohio Beverage, the Van Wert County Board of Commissioners and Van Wert County Foundation.
