VWPD find suspected meth at residence

The Van Wert Police Department has been getting reports of crystal meth making a comeback in the area. After investigating these reports, the police department was able to gather enough probable cause to get a search warrant for apartment at 153 Thistlewood Court.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. Saturday, the police department executed the search warrant and found approximately 95 dosage units of a substance believed to be crystal meth, along with a substantial amount of cash.

The suspected drugs will be sent to the Ohio Bureau of Investigation’s lab for testing. Upon receipt of the BCI drug chemistry analysis, the case will be presented to the Van Wert County Prosecutor’s Office, which is expected to file a charge of trafficking in methamphetamine, a Schedule II drug. The charge is a felony of the second degree.

When under the influence of meth, a person may any or all of the following symptoms:

  • Increased physical activity.
  • Increased blood pressure and breathing rate.
  • Elevated body temperature.
  • Dilated pupils.
  • Heavy sweating.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Sleeplessness.
  • Paranoia or irritability.
