BBBS plans 2nd ‘Dancing with BIG Stars’

There is no other place to be on Saturday, November 12, than at the Overdrive, 3769 U.S. 127 in Celina, for the third annual Big Brothers Big Sisters “Dancing with the BIG Stars” event.

This event, based on the popular TV show “Dancing with the Stars, features a group of prominent community members from throughout the area who will put on their “boogie shoes” and test their newly learned dancing skills with experienced dance partners. The dancers are putting their heart and soul into dancing and raising funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer, Auglaize, & Van Wert Counties.

Each of the celebrity dancers and their experienced dance partners will compete twice on Saturday, November 12, at the Overdrive: during an afternoon matinee performance starting at 1:30 p.m. and an evening dinner performance starting at 5 that evening.

The 2016 cast includes Jason Woods (Coldwater Local Schools superintendent) dancing with Barb Powell, Susie Muhlenkamp (Preferred Insurance) dancing with Craig Muhlenkamp. Peter Moreland (Willmann Dentistry) dancing with Lisa Heckman, RJ Coleman (Central Insurance) dancing with Shelbee Miller, Darren Zimmerman (Emerson Climate Technologies) dancing with Stacy Smuts, Jonathan Sell (Biggby Coffee) dancing with Esther Veh, Nicole Wiley (St. Marys school teacher) dancing with Zach Ferrall, and Renee Place (Auglaize County Board of Developmentally Disabled) dancing with Jeff Schnippel.

The professional dancers represent several dance studios throughout the servicing area, including: Boyds Dance Studio, Kim Hohman’s DanceWorks, The Dance Centre, and Wagner Ballroom Dance Studio. There will also be professional dancers representing Minster Local Schools, Nidec Minster Company, Noble/Montague & Moul, Schnippel Electric, the U.S. Postal Service, and ValCo Company,

Dancers will be taking lessons, rehearsing their dances, and soliciting funds over the next few months.. The “BIG Star Award” will be announced at the dinner performance and is based on the celebrity dancer that raises the most money on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters. In addition, a “Judge’s Choice Award” will be given to the couple that has the best dance performance based on the judges’ critiques. The night’s featured judges are Jane Diller, Becky Kunk, and Eric “Bruno” Wellman.

Tickets are still available for those who would like to be a member of the audience for this event, and each dinner ticket includes a catered dinner in addition to the performance.

The matinee performance includes snacks and a beverage, and tickets are $20 per person for that show. Prices for the dinner show range from $30 to $50 and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
