Paul D. Schaadt, 81, of rural Van Wert, died at 9:17 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born December 29, 1934, in Harrison Township, Van Wert County, the son of Herbert L. and Laura M. (Kreischer) Schaadt, who both preceded him in death. On April 26, 1959, he married the former Eileen M. Muntzinger, who survives at the residence.

American Flag for obituaries 6-2011Paul was a retired farmer in Pleasant and Harrison townships for 46 years. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Convoy and a former choir member. He was a 1952 graduate of Convoy High School and a U.S. Army veteran who served at the end of the Korean Conflict.

He was a director and former president of Convoy Equity, president of Convoy Sports Center. He coached baseball, was an avid bowler, loved to hunt raccoons and mushrooms, and was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Crestview Knights fan.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Gary W. (Jennifer Meggitt) Schaadt of Convoy; one daughter, Marlene M. (Dr. Douglas) Rosen of Charlotte, North Carolina; a brother, Robert L. (Donna) Schaadt of Salem, South Carolina; one sister, Linda (Ned) Springer of Ohio City; and six grandchildren, Zackery and Payton Schaadt, and Avery, Lauryn, Emerson, and Delaney Rosen.

Two brothers, Herbert Schaadt Jr. and Doyt Schaadt, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, August 29, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Convoy, with Pastor Michael Saylor officiating. Burial will be in Evangelical Protestant Cemetery in Harrison Township, with graveside military honors rendered by combined units of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert.

Visitation is from 2-7 p.m. Sunday, August 28, at an hour prior to services Monday at the church.
