Joseph E. Osenga
Joseph E. “Joe” Osenga, 89, of Cloverdale, passed away at 1:51 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2016, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.
He was born April 3, 1927, the son of LaVerne and Treva (Hammons) Osenga, who both preceded him in death. He married Mildred L. (Thatcher) Osenga, who died July 11, 2013.
Survivors include two sons, Kim (Pam) Osenga and Scot (Marcia) Osenga, both of Van Wert; a daughter-in-law, Sue Osenga of Fort Jennings; six grandchildren, Brent (Bethann) Osenga, Hollie (Benjamin) Wolf, Bryan (Pam) Osenga, Heather (Darren) Wainscott, Adam (Amanda) Osenga, and Andrew “AJ” (Laura Longstreth) Osenga; and numerous great-grandchildren.
A son, Joe Osenga; one stepson, Dennis Pollock; and a great-grandson, Thomas J. Osenga, also preceded him in death.
Joe was a retired journeyman with Obitron in Delphos who also had worked at Superior Coach in Lima. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of past commander of the Ottoville Veterans of Foreign Wars post, a member of the Fort Jennings American Legion post, a 50-year Masonic lodge member, a former Boy Scout leader, and a former pilot.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 1, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Gus Christo-Baker officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in rural Van Wert County.
Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
