Stolen car crashes on U.S. 30; 3 injured

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle injury crash involving a stolen car that occurred Tuesday at 12:13 a.m. on U.S. 30 at the intersection with U.S. 224.

A trooper with the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol observed a vehicle traveling east on U.S. 30 at a high rate of speed. After checking the vehicle’s speed at 110 mph, the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop and, after a brief pursuit, crashed while attempting to exit from U.S. 30 at the U.S. 224 west ramp.

osplogoAfter crashing, three suspects in the vehicle attempted to flee the scene, but all three were quickly apprehended after the successful deployment of a law enforcement K-9.

The three suspects were identified as Christopher T. Ellis Jr., 20; Rodrick J. Powers, 17; and Datarrion D. Hill, 17. All three suspects are from Fort Wayne, Indiana.

All three suspects sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash and were transported by EMS squad to Van Wert County Hospital for treatment. The suspects were treated and released to family, pending charges.

The vehicle involved, a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, had been reported stolen from Fort Wayne.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Van Wert Police Department, Convoy Fire & EMS, Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, and Knippen’s Towing.

The incident is still under investigation.
