James C. Geething

James C. Geething, 89, of Van Wert, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Lifecare Hospice in Wooster.

He was born February 15, 1927, in Grass Lake, Michigan, the son of Marion and Ruby (Baer) Geething, who both preceded him in death. On April 4, 1951, he married Carolyn M. Geething, who died December 5, 2008.

Survivors include a son, Rick (Kathy) Geething of Orrville; a sister, Virginia Placke of rural Van Wert County; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Four brothers, Robert, Ray, Bill, and Doyle Geething, and a sister, Elsie Placke, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 17, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Van Wert County, with graveside military honors rendered by combined units of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
