CONVOY — To say Crestview scorched the nets in the first half of Tuesday night’s game against Shawnee would be vast understatement.
The Knights shot an amazing 18 of 21 (86 percent) from the floor, including 8 of 9 (89 percent) from three point range on the way to a convincing 71-55 victory over the visiting Indians (11-4).

Crestview (10-3) cooled off a bit in the second half, but still finished the game 28 of 39 (72 percent).
After trailing 8-4 early in the first quarter Crestview went on a 22-5 run to end the period. Trevor Gibson began the run with a trey, followed by a bucket from Trevor Gibson, a basket and two foul shots by Drew Kline, a triple by Grant Schlagbaum, a bucket by Wade Sheets and a basket and trey by Javin Etzler.
Derick Dealey opened the second quarter with a three pointer, then Derek Stout’s basket put the Knights up 31-13 a minute into the period. Shawnee’s Sheridan O’Neal knocked down a pair of foul shots, but Javin Etzler quickly countered with a basket and a triple. The two teams traded baskets during the final half of the quarter, but a pair of late three pointers by Dealey extended Crestview’s lead to 48-28 at halftime.
“We shot it very well and obviously that helped, no doubt about it,” Crestview head coach Jeremy Best said. “But like we tell our guys when we lock in on the defensive end, we’re usually rewarded.”
The Knights opened the third quarter with a 9-2 run on a bucket by Stout, three by Sheets and another trey by Dealey. Trailing 59-30, Shawnee outscored Crestview 11-3 to end the period. Johnny Caprella, Jake Hutchins and Riley Rosado each hit baskets, and Hutchins and Caprella converted foul shots.
Shawnee hit just three baskets in the fourth quarter but converted eight free throws, while the Knights converted four buckets and a free throw.
Four Knights finished in double figures – Etzler (17), Stout (14), Sheets (13) and Dealey (12). Shawnee had two players in double figures – Caprella (15 and Jared Thomas (10).
Winners of six straight, Crestview will host Lima Central Catholic on Friday then will travel to Celina on Saturday.
