Janis Ann Owens, 77 of rural Van Wert, died at 9:19 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.

She was born July 19, 1940, in Van Wert, the daughter of Paul LaDoyt and Mary Elizabeth (Chubb) Eller, who both preceded her in death.

Janis retired as branch manager at the Commercial Bank in Delphos. She was a 1958 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School and a member of the Middle Point United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star chapter in Delphos, a member and former treasurer of Church Woman United, a volunteer for the last 15 years for Van Wert County Hospital, involved with the chapel service at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert, and faithfully visited shut-ins at local nursing homes.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Carolyn Owens of Van Wert; her daughter and son-in-law, Diana (Bob) Kesler of Van Wert; a brother, Raymond L. (Joyce) Eller of Rockford; four grandchildren, Briana (Adam) Geiger, Becca Kesler, Jared Kesler, and Brendon Kesler; two stepgrandchildren, Dan (Christy) Jacks and Colby (Danah) Jacks; one great-grandchild; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Russell L. Eller, in infancy.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 27, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Gary Ginter officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday, January 26, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center or Middle Point United Methodist Church.
