LIMA – Crestview’s Lyvia Black scored all ten of her points in the fourth quarter, and Paige Motycka finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Knights over Lima Central Catholic 38-29 on Thursday.

The win extended Crestview’s winning streak to four games, and improved the team’s record to 10-6.

“As I told my team, a win is a win,” Crestview head coach Mark Gregory said. “Sometimes you have to win ugly and we did that. I told the girls it wasn’t our best game, but I’d much rather win ugly than lose pretty.”

Crestview trailed 21-20 to begin the final period, but Black hit a foul shot to tie, then a try that gave the Lady Knights the lead for good. Five of her 10 points in the quarter were from the free throw line.

The game was a defensive struggle throughout. Lima Central Catholic (2-17) led 11-8 at the end of the first quarter, but Crestview lead 17-16 at halftime.

The two teams combined for just eight points in the third quarter – five by the Thunderbirds and three by the Lady Knights.

Crestview went on to outscore Lima Central Catholic 18-8 in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Knights finished the game 12 of 46 (26 percent) from the floor and 13 of 21 (61 percent) from the floor. As a team, Crestview pulled down 28 rebounds, including 17 on the offensive end.

“We did a really good job of crashing the boards and it allowed some extra opportunities,” Gregory said.

Crestview will play at Antwerp on Tuesday.
