VW Cougars rally past Kenton

KENTON — The Van Wert Cougars rallied from six points down at the third quarter, then used overtime to extend their winning streak to four with a 55-53 Western Buckeye League win over Kenton on Friday night.

The Cougars found themselves trailing the hosts 41-35 in the third period, but Nate Place scored seven of his team 17 points in the fourth quarter to help Van Wert close the gap and eventually go to overtime tied at 49.

The Cougars hit just one basket (by Jacoby Kelly) in the extra session but hit four foul shots, including one by Place with 2.5 seconds left.

Along with Place’s 17 points, Kelly and Drew Bagley each scored 11, while Blake Henry added 10.

Van Wert (7-7, 2-3 WBL) will host Coldwater tonight.
