Crisis Care fundraiser event lots of fun

VW independent/submitted information

There was lots of laughter and fun at the sold-out Trivia Night fundraising event held last Saturday at Elks Lodge 1197 in Van Wert. The event was held to raise money for Van Wert’s emergency shelter for victims of domestic and family violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking that is operated by Crisis Care.

More than 200 people attended the event to participate in a spirited — and sometimes downright rowdy — trivia competition. A silent auction and several raffles enabled many who attended to go home with cash and prizes. Several local businesses generously donated gifts, and many also sponsored entire tables for their employees.

“Great generosity from our community and a wonderful sense of spirit made this a successful fundraising event,” said Leslie Wilkin and Janet Crummey, committee co-chairs. “We are so pleased with the outcome and hope to make this an annual event.”

The Trivia Trophy was won by the Alexander & Bebout team, while future winning teams will be added to the traveling trophy each year.

More importantly, the event raised more than $7,000 for Crisis Care to be used to improve and update the only emergency shelter for victims in Van Wert County.

Crisis Care is a United Way agency and is supported by the Van Wert County Foundation. For more than 38 years, Crisis Care has served local victims of domestic violence, family violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Free services of Crisis Care can be accessed by calling its 24/7 emergency hotline at 419.238.HELP (4357).

This team was runner-up for the Trivia fundraiser at the Elks.

The last-place team was also honored during the Trivia fundraiser at the Elks.
