At the Ohio State Robotics Championship in Cincinnati, the VWHS Robotics Team won three matches, and lost two, advancing to the semifinals before losing to the top-ranked team in the world. The team did win the first-place Promote Award, which is awarded to the team that is most successful in creating a compelling video message for the public designed to celebrate STEM.  Austin Carnahan was the captain of the video and marketing team, which also included Cal Wolfrum and Angel Haller.

The next weekend, the VWHS Robotics Team competed in the Pennsylvania State Championship against the top 36 teams from New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania.

The VWHS team was the top ranked team and one of only two undefeated teams going into the semifinals. Van Wert swept the best-of-three match competition in both the semifinals and finals, winning the Pennsylvania state championship as the team captain.

This qualifies the VWHS team for the East Super-Regionals in three weeks, where the top 72 teams from 12 eastern states will compete for the opportunity to qualify for the world championships.

Coaches Bob Spath and Zane McElroy thanked team sponsors, the Van Wert community, Van Wert High School, and Vantage Career Center for their continued support as the team moves forward to Super-Regionals.
