YWCA plans Muscle Awareness Clinic

VW independent/submitted information

The YWCA of Van Wert County announces a Muscle Awareness Clinic to be held at the YWCA at 6 p.m. Monday, March 26, for all parents, coaches, and students in grades 6-12. This free and open clinic will address injury prevention, decreasing muscle soreness, overall stretching, proper lifting techniques, and more. Pre-registration is required by calling 419.238.6639 or emailing jmcclain@ywcavanwertcounty.org. It is preferred that parents come with the students.

Presenters for the clinic will be licensed massage therapist Tyla Mason and certified personal trainer Casey Laukhuf.

“Our massage therapist, Tyla, presented this idea, in response to seeing so many youth and teens in her treatment room with unusually tight muscles from potential inadequate stretching prior to and after physical activity,” stated J.J. McClain, YWCA health and wellness coordinator. “I have seen this issue in my own children and knew it would be a great thing to offer our area youth and teens.”

“We also know the importance of proper technique when lifting and working out and felt it would be beneficial to offer the knowledge of our personal trainer at this same event,” she added, “and to be able to offer something like this to our community free of charge allows us to stay true to our mission and the goals of our department.”

All information at the clinic will be geared toward youths and teens. Call the YWCA at the above number or email address to register or for more information.  The YWCA is a non-profit organization and a United Way and Van Wert County Foundation agency.
