Thad Warren Summersett

Thad Warren Summersett, 40, of Los Angeles, California, died at 8:52 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Blake Hospital in Bradenton, Florida.

He was born April 27, 1977, in Van Wert, the son of Dennis “Denny” Summersett, who preceded him in death, and Judy (Dr. Gary) Pancake Painter of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

In addition to his mother and stepfather he is survived by his sisters, Tonya (Ben) Powers of St. Louis, Missouri, and Megan (Matt) Maassel of Kansas City, Missouri; a nephew and niece, Owen Powers and Maya Powers; his paternal grandfather, Warren Summersett of Van Wert; a stepbrother, Brandon Painter of Van Wert; one stepsister, Kate (Jon) Brown of Fortville, Indiana; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Thad was an actuary for Willis Towers Perrin in Los Angeles. He was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2015. Thad filled his life with family, traveling, work, outpacing his doctors in cancer runs, cheering on The Ohio State University Buckeyes, and enjoying friends in Los Angeles.

He will be remembered for his humor, thoughtful gift giving, his Karaoke and dance skills, intelligence, and for being a fun uncle. Thad was valedictorian at both Crestview High School and The Ohio State University.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with Pastor Troy Jester officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.

Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
