VW sheriff warns about telephone scam

Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach is warning county residents to be aware of a telephone scam soliciting donations using the Buckeye State Sheriffs Association.

The sheriff noted that the Buckeye State Sheriffs Association never solicits donations by phone.

“I am asking (that), if anyone receives a call soliciting donations for the Buckeye State Sheriffs Association, that citizens do not give any donation to the telephone solicitor,” Sheriff Riggenbach said. “ I am also asking citizens to call the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office or other local sheriff’s office and report this information to us.”
