Larry G. Mumma

Larry G. Mumma, 78, of Van Wert, passed away at 2:40 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2018, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born May 27, 1940, in Bluffton, the son of Merlin M. and Lavon (Cook) Mumma, who both preceded him in death.

A graduate of Bluffton High School, Larry was a three-sport athlete, having lettered in football, baseball, and basketball. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army. Larry loved spending time on the beaches of Fort Myers, Florida, with his family. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye nut.

A gentle soul, Larry was giving and loving. He was a baptized and confirmed member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He was married to the love of his life, Carolyn Miller, on August 9, 2014, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church by the Rev. Philip Zielenski.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Mumma of Van Wert; a son, Tony (Farah) Mumma of Gomer; one daughter, Lori (Dan) Freund of Van Wert; a brother, Jim (Becky) Mumma of North Fort Myers, Florida; one sister, Karen (Gary) Brismore of Pandora; five grandchildren, Seth, Shelby, Austin, and Brianna, and Shannon (Robert) Spear; six great-grandchildren, Evali, Xehrya, and Lynix, and Braxten, Braelynn, and Renson; as well as his little buddy, Tessie.

A half-brother, Bob Beemer, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kurt Klingbeil officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 2, and again from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, all at the church.

Preferred memorials: Emmanuel Lutheran Church or the Van Wert County Humane Society.
