The Lady Cougars improved to 5-0 (1-0 WBL) by sweeping visiting Wapakoneta on Thursday, 25-19, 25-16, 25-11.

Katie Coplin led Van Wert with 20 digs, 11 assists and five digs, while Adrianna Grothause had 19 digs and a team high three aces. Noelle Heffner had nine assists and two aces, Grace Spoor had a pair of aces, Jamison Clouse had eight kills and three blocks, and Lainey Werts had a block.

Van Wert will host Ottoville on Tuesday.

Shawnee 5 Van Wert 0

Perennial Western Buckeye League power Shawnee swept Van Wert 5-0 on Thursday.

Shawnee’s Aria Patel won at first singles, topping Alli Morrow 6-0, 6-0, while Kuhni Ojo won at second singles by defeating Van Wert’s Allie Etter 6-1, 6-2. Alotus Wei won at third singles 6-1, 6-0 over Emma Rutkowski.

At first doubles, Sanjana Rajasekaran and Katie Clark defeated Liv Kline and Paige Moonshower 6-1, 6-2, and at second doubles, Ella Atkinson and Dele Ojo topped Van Wert’s Jada Buckner and Lizzie Rutkowski 6-2, 6-1.

The Lady Cougars (0-4, 0-3 WBL) will host Kenton on Tuesday.

Visiting Ottoville topped Van Wert 7-1 in girls’ non-conference soccer action on Thursday.

Elizabeth Tomlinson scored Van Wert’s lone goal.
