Lincolnview three-sport athlete Lakin Brant has signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and volleyball career at Boyce College.

The Louisville, Kentucky institution is a private Christian college affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and is a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association’s Division II Mideast Region.

“This past summer I went on a mission trip with my church and my cousins live in Kentucky and they mentioned it,” Brant said. “I went to Malone University for a recruitment thing and I liked the volleyball aspect of it, but the college just wasn’t for me and I didn’t have that homey feeling I did at Boyce, so I just went with my gut feeling and went to Boyce.”

While playing for head coach JaNahn Evans, Brant was named as Lincolnview Defensive Player of the Year during each of her four years, was a team captain for three years, and was named Second Team All Northwest Conference during her sophomore season. She earned First Team All-NWC honors during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons, and was named Second Team All District 8 in her junior year and First Team All District 8 last fall.

She was a Van Wert independent/Northwest Ohio Welch Trophy Student Athlete of the Week and played in the District 8 and State Senior All-Star Matches.

Brant was No. 1 in the state for digs and set school records for Most Digs in a Match (51), Most Digs Per Season (687) and Most Digs in a Career (1798).

In addition, Brant starred on the basketball court and is a team leader in softball, but she decided on playing collegiate volleyball.

“I would say I’m more passionate about volleyball,” Brant explained. “Volleyball is a lot of fun and it’s a big team sport, which I love. Everyone gets excited together and everyone gets the glory and that’s the best part.”

Brant, the daughter of Dan and Sabrina Brant, intends to double major in Urban Ministry and Early Education, and her goal is to have an after school program and run camps in the summer with children.
