Donald ‘Salty’ Waltmire

Donald “Salty” Waltmire, 66, of Van Wert, passed at 7:35 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

He was born April 8, 1953, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Harold F. Waltmire, who preceded him in death, and Jeannette J. (Burris) Waltmire, who survives in Van Wert. He married the former Robin L. Agler, who survives in Van Wert.

Salty graduated from Crestview High School in 1971.  He had worked for many years at Masolite Concrete of Fort Wayne and Cooper Farms in Van Wert, where he retired in 2015.  

He was an avid NASCAR fan, an Ohio State Buckeyes fan, loved all his grandchildren, loved to golf, hang with all of his friends and family, and make his rounds.

Survivors include two sons, Shane (Tarra) Waltmire and Dusty Waltmire, both of Van Wert; five grandchildren, Courtney, Payton, Saige, Addison, and Tatum Waltmire, all of Van Wert. He is also survived by his siblings, Rick (Cheryl) Waltmire of Van Wert, Steve (Jennifer) Waltmire of Findlay, Myrna Marsee of Van Wert, Deb (Dave) Webster of Convoy, Barb (Larry) Fulk of Van Wert, and Bruce Waltmire of Van Wert.

A brother-in-law, Cletus Marsee; and one uncle, Bob Waltmire, also preceded him in death. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at Calvary Evangelical Church in Van Wert, with Pastor W. Clark Williman officiating. Burial will follow in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.  

Visitation is from 1-7 p.m. Friday, May 24, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Preferred memorials: Donor’s choice.
