Girls hoops: Van Wert, Lincolnview fall

Van Wert and Lincolnview both lost in non-conference girls’ basketball action on Tuesday night.

Spencerville 62, Van Wert 39

SPENCERVILLE — The Lady Cougars fell behind early and never recovered in a 62-39 loss at Spencerville on Tuesday.

The Lady Bearcats (3-3) led 14-3 after one quarter and 34-9 at halftime. The lead was 58-14 after three quarters, before Van Wert put together a 25 point fourth quarter.

Jaylyn Rickard scored a team-high eight points, all coming in the final period. Carlee Young scored six of her seven points in the fourth quarter, and Kyra Welch and Carly Smith each finished with six points.

Spencerville’s Emma Leis hit five three-point baskets and led all scorers with 19 points, all coming in the first half.

Van Wert (1-4) will play at Defiance on Thursday.

Elida 44, Lincolnview 36

ELIDA — A two point second quarter came back to haunt the Lady Lancers in 44-36 loss at Elida on Tuesday.

Elida held a one point lead, 11-10, after the first quarter, but the Bulldogs outscored the visitors 10-2 in the second period to grab a 21-12 halftime lead. Elida led 33-22 after three quarters.

Brianna Ebel led Lincolnview with 12 points, Lana Carey scored nine and Kendall Bollenbacher chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds. As a team, the Lady Lancers were 14 of 35 from the floor (40 percent) and 4 of 6 from the foul line with 22 rebounds.

Elida’s Addisyn Freeman led all scorers with 17 points.

Lincolnview (0-5) will return to action Thursday night at Lima Central Catholic.
