Random drug search conducted at VWHS

Van Wert City Schools, in conjunction with the Van Wert Police Department and Van Wert County Sheriff’s K-9 unit, conducted a random drug search at the high school campus this morning.

“In our last few board meetings, we have discussed the fact that we will be working with our local law enforcement officers to randomly bring in detection dogs,” said Superintendent Vicki Brunn. “If you stopped by our high school campus this morning, you most likely saw several squad cars. Being our first exercise of this kind, more units than normal were on scene to help ensure the process went smoothly.

“We are happy to report the campus was clear,” Brunn added. “We will continue to do this on occasion and will of course not be notifying the public in advance. We appreciate your continued support in our efforts to keep our students safe and our schools drug-free.”

“For the safety of our students, we have provided our local law enforcement with an open invitation to come and perform a search at any time,” said VWHS Principal Bob Priest. “These searches are random and unannounced, even to administration, and we are happy to accommodate them at any time. Again, our students’ safety is our top priority as we continue to do our best in keeping VWHS a drug-free school.”
