3 seek GOP county treasurer’s nomination

Van Wert independent

Financial problems that have plagued the Van Wert County Treasurer’s Office for more than a year are likely at least partially responsible for Treasurer Nathan Vandenbroek having two Republican challengers for the March 17 primary election.

In addition to Vandenbroek, who filed petitions for the Republican nomination for a full four-year term after being appointed last September to the position by the Van Wert County Republican Central Committee, challengers include outgoing Van Wert Mayor Jerry Mazur and Van Wert resident Jeff McIntosh.

There will also be a challenger for Probate-Juvenile Judge Kevin Taylor, with local attorney Scott Gordon also running for the Republican nomination for that position.

No other county offices have challengers in the primary election.

Two county commissioners, Todd Wolfrum and Stan Owens, both Republicans, are running unopposed in the primary, while other county officials also running unopposed in the primary include Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach, Recorder Kim Hughes, Engineer Kyle Wendel, Prosecutor Eva Yarger, Clerk of Courts Cynthia Mollenkopf, and Coroner Dr. Scott W. Jarvis.
