Jeffrey Lynn Goins

Jeffrey Lynn Goins, 53, of Van Wert, and formerly of Scott, passed away unexpectedly at 6:33 a.m. Friday, December 20, at Van Wert Health following a brief illness. 

He was born October 10, 1966, in Van Wert, the son of Jerry Goins, who survives in Haviland, and Judy (Hines) Goins, who preceded him in death. 

Jeff was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. Raised in Scott, Jeff lived many places across the United States, coming back to the Van Wert area four years ago.

He worked with H.E. Orr Company in Paulding as an electrician.

Jeff was a Harley riding, dart playing, sci-fi nerd at heart who loved “Dr. Who”, “Battlestar Galactica”, and Elvis. 

He is survived by his daughter, Autumn (Abe) Abrahamson and their son, Tormund of Hunter North Dakota; his fiancée, Sheri McMinn of Van Wert; two brothers, Jerry “JD” Goins and Joe Goins, both of Scott; and several grandchildren.

Jeff also played a vital role in many others’ lives as a second father, grandfather, friend, and mentor. 

Two sisters, Shelly and Julia Goins, and his stepmother, Carolyn Goins, also preceded him in death.

A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, December 27, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with military honors rendered by the combined units of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 and American Legion Post 178, both of Van Wert. Private burial will be held in Ridge Cemetery in rural Van Wert County.

Visitation is from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
