Hoops: Knights, Lancers fall on Friday

It was a tough night for Crestview and Lincolnview, as both lost in non-conference action on Friday.

Delphos St. John’s 58 Crestview 37

CONVOY — The visiting Blue Jays jumped out to a 23-11 first quarter lead and went on to defeat Crestview 58-37 at Ray Etzler Gymnasium.

Brady Grothaus scored seven of his 17 points in the opening period, including a pair of treys, while Isaac Fairchild also drained a pair of triples in the quarter.

Fairchild added eight more points in the second quarter as Delphos St. John’s (7-0) increased the lead to 46-18 at halftime, then 55-25 after three quarters.

Crestview’s Kalen Etzler scored six of his nine points in the second half, while Gavin Etzler chipped in with eight. Carson Kreischer and Nathan Lichtle each added six points.

Delphos St. John’s will host New Knoxville on Friday, while Crestview (2-6) will travel to Kalida the same night.

Kalida 67 Lincolnview 38

Kalida connected on 10 of 22 treys in a 67-38 win over Lincolnview.

The Wildcats led 15-6 after the first quarter and 28-16 at halftime, then outscored the hosts 23-7 in the third period for a 51-23 lead.

Kalida (3-5) held a 30-22 rebounding advantage had four players reach double figures. Luke Erhart led all scorers with 19 and nine rebounds, while Evan Roebke had 16 and Ayden Warnecke 12. Gabe Hovest finished with 11.

Garrett Richardson led Lincolnview with seven points, while Aaron Cavinder and Jake Bowersock each had six. Creed Jessee and Collin Overholt each scored five points.

Lincolnview (4-2) will host Ottoville today, with the junior varsity game tipping off at 4:30 p.m.
