Wayne L. Scherry

Wayne L. Scherry, 70, of Convoy, passed away Wednesday evening, January 1, 2020, at his residence.

He was born January 11, 1949, in Allen County, Indiana, the son of Harold W. Scherry, who preceded him in death, and Dorothy I. (Strahm) Scherry, who survives in Decatur, Indiana. He married the former Kimberly R. Clifton on June 27, 1998, in Van Wert, and she also survives, in Convoy.

Wayne served his country in the United States Air Force during Vietnam War.

He attended The Bridge Community Church in Decatur, Indiana.  

Wayne retired as a quality engineer, having worked for several different firms. 

He loved the Lord and enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s events. He was an avid knife collector and a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan. Wayne loved Star Wars, Grinch, and Polar Express and passed this love along to his children and grandchildren. He was also a Ford man.

Other survivors include a daughter, Alison (Craig) Yoder of Berne, Indiana; two sons, Ben Scherry and Joel Scherry both of Decatur; one stepdaughter, Annie (Brian) Brecht of Van Wert; a stepson, Jason (Kacee) Kreischer of Scott; one sister, Karen (Harold) Rumschlag of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren, Avery (Calvin) Conant, Keagan Yoder, Kamden Yoder, Kennedy Scherry, Reese Scherry, Addison Yoder, Brock Scherry, and Bristol Scherry; and five stepgrandchildren, Braden Brecht, Lauren Brecht, Brody Brecht, Claire Kreischer, and Paislee Kreischer.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 6, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana, with Pastors Dave Fox and Craig Yoder officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City, with graveside military honors rendered by American Legion Post 43 in Decatur.  

Visitation is from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday, January 5, at the funeral home.
