Knights held in check in loss to Kalida

KALIDA — The free throw line proved to be a big factor on Friday night, as Kalida topped Crestview 46-32.

The Wildcats connected on 12-17 foul shots, including 8-11 in the fourth quarter, while Crestview shot just five free throws, hitting two. The victory improved Kalida’s overall record to 5-5, while the Knights fell to 2-7.

Kalida held a one point lead, 8-7, after one quarter, followed by a 20-15 halftime advantage. The Wildcats enjoyed a 10-5 scoring advantage in the third quarter before outscoring the Knights 16-12 in the fourth quarter.

Kalida’s Luke Erhart scored eight of his 11 points in the final period, while teammate Evan Roebke also finished with 11 points.

Crestview’s Kalen Etzler led all scorers with 12 points, including five in the second quarter. Gavin Etzler and Carson Kreischer each finished with eight points. All of Etzler’s points came in the second half.

The Knights were 13-43 (30 percent) from the field with 19 turnovers, while Kalida was 15-48 (31 percent) with 15 turnovers. The Wildcats had a 30-26 rebounding edge.

Crestview will play at Tinora tonight.
