Bernice I. Howard

Bernice I. Howard, 91, of Lima, passed away at 4:20 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2020, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

She was born February 14, 1928, in Lima, the daughter of Elvie L. Sakemiller, who preceded her in death. She married John L. Howard on February 19, 1948, and he passed away April 26, 1987.

Survivors include two sons, Jan D. Howard of Lima and Stephen P. Howard of Columbus; three daughters, Melanie  F. (Kevin) Howard Crawford of Lima, Susan P. (Tom) Kanode of London (Ohio), and Camilla E. (John) Irons of Lima; a sister, Piccola Houck of Sidney; seven grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Tracy L. Howard.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, with Pastor Fred Rowe officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford Cemetery. 

Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Monday, January 6, at the funeral home. 

Preferred memorials: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
