Harold Post

Harold Post, 84, of Celina, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at his residence in Celina.  

He was born March 3, 1935 in Celina, the son of William Henry and Antionette “Nettie” (Buetle) Post, who both preceded him in death. On May 18, 1957 he married Mary Margaret Magoto, who survives in Celina.

Also surviving are his children, Jan (Clarence) Eckstein Jr. of Celina, Ginny Goins of Celina, Barb (Bruce) Klepinger of Bradford, Ken (Deb) Post of Coldwater, Steve Post of Celina, Judy (T.J.) Smalley of Celina.

He has 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Feister, Matt Eckstein, Ashley Eckstein, Megan Goins and Matt Carter, Amanda (Kieth) Kiefer, Kyle Post, Jake Smalley, Carly Post, Brooke Smalley, Nash Klepinger, and Ted Klepinger; and three great-grandchildren, Dylann Feister, Mason Feister, and Alissa Kiefer. He is also survived by two brothers and his sisters-in-law; Dick (Rosie) Post of Celina, Don (Mary Ann) Post of Coldwater, and Ann Post of Celina. 

He was also preceded in death by five siblings, Urban (Opal) Post, William (Anna) Post, Ralph (Yvonne) Post, Alice (Urban) Grevenkamp, and Tom Post; a son-in-law, Alan Goins; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ben and Lolly Magoto.  

Harold grew up around Skeels Road and graduated from Coldwater High School with the Class of 1953. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army for 18 months in Germany from 1957 until 1959. He enjoyed sightseeing in Germany while serving his country. When he returned to Mercer County, he went to work at Mersman Brother Furniture Company in Celina until he retired after 38 years of employment. Upon retirement, he opened his painting business, which he operated for 15 years.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, a member of the Sons of the American Legion and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1800 in Celina. He was very active with the Knights of Columbus and volunteered for over 30 years supporting Immaculate Conception Bingo and making waffles. He was also a member of, and very active with, the Celina Athletic Booster Club.  

Harold was a proud support of the Celina Bulldog sports programs and never missed an event or game that his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were competing in. 

The Post Family thank all of Harold’s caregivers at Grand Lake Hospice and The Celina Manor for the unforgettable care they provided for Harold. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 11, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with Father Tim McFarland, C.PP.S., officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Celina, with military honors rendered.  

Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Friday, January 10, and from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday morning at Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina. Membership services will be held Friday for Knights of Columbus Council 1800 at 8 p.m.
