Hoops recap: Crestview, Lincolnview lose

Crestview and Lincolnview each stepped out of conference play on Saturday. The Knights lost at home to Arlington, while Lincolnview fell on the road to Miller City.

Arlington 74 Crestview 63

CONVOY — Crestview’s Kalen Etzler and Carson Kreischer combined for 43 points, but the Knights fell to Arlington 74-63 on Saturday night.

Etzler, who also had 10 rebounds, scored nine of his 23 points in the first quarter and Kreischer scored four points, as the duo accounted of all of Crestview’s first quarter points.

Zavier Thornton hit three triples to account for half of Arlington’s first quarter points and in the second period, the Red Devils (9-4) added 17 more to take a 35-30 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Arlington’s Jaret Vermillion scored 14 of his game high 26 points, including three treys, to give the visitors a 54-49 lead at the end of the period. Brody Brecht scored six points in the quarter for Crestview, Etzler added five and Kreischer tacked on four.

Arlington’s Bryce Gast scored six of his 14 points in the fourth quarter and Ty Webb added five of his ten points in a 20 point final period. Crestview countered with five points by Etzler and four more by Kreischer.

Crestview was 20 of 55 (36 percent) from the floor and 17 of 19 from the foul line with 24 rebounds. Arlington finished 23 of 48 (48 percent) from the floor and 15 of 20 from the free throw line with 28 rebounds. The Red Devils had nine turnovers, compared to just four for the Knights.

Crestview (4-8) will host Delphos Jefferson on Friday and will travel to Pandora-Gilboa on Saturday.

Miller City 64 Lincolnview 51

MILLER CITY — The Lancers dropped their third straight game with a 64-51 loss at Miller City on Saturday.

The Wildcats enjoyed a big advantage at the foul line, going 20 of 29, while the Lancers were 4 of 7. Miller City also had a sizable advantage on the boards, 35-21.

Miller City (7-4) jumped out to an 18-12 lead after one quarter, then led 32-22 at halftime. Lincolnview managed to trim the deficit back to six, 49-43 after three quarters, but the Wildcats outscored the Lancers 15-8 in the final period.

Creed Jessee led Lincolnview with 14 points, while Clayton Leeth and Collin Overholt each scored 11. The Lancers were 20 of 56 (36 percent) from the floor. Aaron Cavinder had a team leading seven rebounds.

Miller City also had three players in double figures – Austin Ruhe led all scorers with 19, Nick Gable had 14 and Jacob Koenig finished with 12 points and a team high seven rebounds. The Wildcats were 19 of 46 (41 percent) from the floor.

Lincolnview (5-6) will host Bluffton on Friday, then will travel to Antwerp on Saturday.
