Gary B. Carter Sr.

Gary B. Carter Sr., 67, of Van Wert, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, with his family by his side.

He was born March 15, 1952, in Van Wert, the son of Dorothy Curtiss, who survives. On April 18, 1970, Gary married his high school sweetheart, Carol (Lippi) Carter, who also survives. 

Gary worked as a steel cutter at Kennedy Manufacturing Company in Van Wert for over 47 years. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, both in Van Wert. 

Gary loved spending time with his grandkids, working in his garden, and walking. He also loved watching the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Other survivors are his four children, Gary (Tammy) Carter Jr., William “Ed” (Traci) Carter, Anthony “Tony” (Rita) Carter, all of Van Wert, and Amanda (Tony) Wright of Ohio City; 13 grandchildren, Cassandra (Matt), Brent (Brandy), Dustin, Thad (Krystal), Noah, Nicholas, Lydia, Audrey, Mac, Carter, Jack, Van, and Langston; as well as one great-grandson, Vaughn. 

Gary’s wish was for friends to remember him the way he was before his illness. In honoring his request, services will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gary`s memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
