Random Thoughts: milestone, MLB & more

SCOTT TRUXELL/independent sports editor

This week’s Random Thoughts include a 1000/1000 student-athlete, the Super Bowl, Major League Baseball.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Lexi Gregory for joining the 1,000 point club in basketball.

The 5-7 senior guard accomplished the feat at the 7:17 mark of the second quarter during last night’s game against Van Wert.

She’s also a member of the 1,000 kill club in volleyball.

Super Bowl

The Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will meet in Super Bowl 54 on February 2.

A lot of people thought it might be the Chiefs and Green Bay Packers – two teams that met in the first Super Bowl, which was called the AFL-NFL championship game in those days.

The term Super Bowl was used until the Baltimore Colts-New York Jets title game, Super Bowl III.

I don’t have a horse in the race, but it’d be nice to see Kansas City win it.

MLB

I wonder how far Major League Baseball’s sign stealing scandal is going to go.

On one hand, it would be nice to know the exact scope of what actually happened but on the other hand, it’s already a black eye on baseball, and I’m sure team owners and the league in general don’t want things to get any worse.

Spring training

Speaking of Major League Baseball, it’s hard to believe that spring training is just around the corner.

Pitchers and catchers will report as early as February 12, with first full squad workouts beginning five days later. The first spring training games will take place February 21, 22 and 23.

It all sounds nice right now.

Lancer wrestling

Kudos to Lincolnview’s wrestling program.

The Lancers had very limited numbers the past couple of seasons, but have far more wrestlers competing this year.

That’s very nice to see.
