Election Bd. seeks GOP clerk, poll workers

VW independent/submitted information

The Van Wert County Board of Elections is currently seeking to fill the position of Republican clerk in its office, as well as county poll workers.

Clerks, who serve at the pleasure of the director and deputy director, must be flexible in their work schedule and be available to work extended hours during elections. Clerks must also be able to operate automated office equipment, including, but not limited to, copiers, faxes, computers, and printers, as well as voting equipment.

At times, a significant amount of lifting and use of ladders is required and clerks must be able to perform some physical labor when handling election equipment and supplies. Equipment may vary in weight, ranging from 20 to 48 pounds.

The Elections Board is also looking for individuals interested in serving as county poll workers.

Being a poll worker is a great opportunity for registered voters who have the time to commit on Election Day. It’s a great way for students, part-time employees, retired citizens, and people with flexible schedules to serve their community.

Poll workers in Van Wert County must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a registered county voter.
  • Must not have a felony conviction (unless it has been reversed, expunged, or pardoned).

Poll workers also need to:

  • Have transportation to and from the polls.
  • Not be running as a candidate in the election in which they are working.
  • Attend training sessions.
  • Work from 5:30 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Those who choose to be poll workers will receive training and be paid for their time.

Anyone interested in becoming a Republican clerk or poll worker should contact the Van Wert County Board of Elections at 419.238.4192.
