VW independent/submitted information

The United Way of Van Wert County has announced several events for its “Rivals United” fundraising project in the Crestview and Lincolnview school districts. The United Way will be going live on Facebook this Thursday, January 30, at 10:45 a.m., to publicize the popular friendly rivalry fundraising event.

As part of the Rivals United project, several events will be held the week of February 3-7. Those events include an FFA Game at Crestview on Monday, February 3; a tailgate event and girls’ basketball game at Crestview on Thursday, February 6; and a boys’ basketball game at Lincolnview on Friday, February 7.

There will also be a Social Media Challenge sponsored by CNT. The challenge is to like, share, tag a friend, or comment on the United Way Facebook page “pass it along” posts, to be posted at 8 a.m. February 3, and earn a point for the school being supported. The school with the most points by 6 p.m. February 3 will earn $100 toward its school goal from CNT.

In addition to school events and challenges, the mayors of the biggest village in each school district have also announced a challenge related to the Rivals United fundraiser.

Middle Point Mayor Ken Myers (Lincolnview) issues a challenge to Convoy Mayor Tim Bolenbaugh (Crestview) stating that the mayor of the losing village will go to the winning village’s pizza restaurant (Fire House Pizza in Middle Point or Knight Pizza in Convoy), purchase a pizza, and deliver it to that village’s Council meeting wearing the winning school’s jersey.

“This is to remind fans that we are neighbors before, during, and after the contest,” Mayor Myers noted. “Breaking bread brings people together and reminds us we are only rivals in athletics.”
