Kenton defeats Van Wert 55-50

KENTON — Van Wert fought hard but came up a bit short in a 55-50 loss at Kenton on Friday.
The two teams were tied 12-12 after the first quarter, with Owen Treece accounting for seven of Van Wert’s points, and Jacob Eversole scoring six of Kenton’s 12 points.
Jayden Cornell scored nine points in the second period, while Keaton Brown put in seven, and Kenton held a 31-24 lead at halftime. Brown drilled three triples in the third quarter and the Cougars managed to trim the deficit to one, 42-41 by the end of the quarter, but the Wildcats used a 13-9 scoring advantage in the final period to notch the win. Treece accounted for seven of Van Wert’s nine points in the quarter and he finished with 17 points, while Brown finished with 18 points.
Eversole scored 18 for Kenton (11-7, 5-1 WBL) while Cornell finished with 15.
The Cougars (3-12, 1-5 WBL) will play at Bryan today (2 p.m. junior varsity start), then will travel to Delphos St. John’s on Tuesday.
