Wassenberg to host ‘souper’ competition

Soups vs. Soups! Sign up for this “souper” competition open to both amateur chefs and the pros! Following the Main Street Van Wert Chocolate Walk on February 7, we open our doors to the tired, the cold, the hungry and offer hot, yummy soups. You get to choose your favorite! We will also be pairing chocolates and wine (in case you haven’t had enough). We will have live music by Jimmy Holbrook (solo). A $10 entry fee is required. Winners will receive some cash, a bragging trophy, a Wass mug and glowing recognition. Free entry to the art center as always. To enter, email info@wassenbergartcenter.org or call: 419.238.6837.

A soup competition is being held after Main Street Van Wert’s Chocolate Walk at the Wassenberg Art Center. See how you can enter!

There is only a few more days to enjoy the Ohio Watercolor Society Exhibit, which will close February 2. The second installment of “Watercolor Winter”, we will showcase the American Watercolor Society. AWS can feature artists who have advanced to the national level of competition. Soak up the color to brighten your winter.

Squashies (paint your own)! Our third round of wassenBoxes is underway. We have been having a great time dreaming up and creating all of the unique craft kits. Each box that arrives in your mailbox monthly, is designed and created by Wassenberg staff, so each box is truly unique. This is an economical and convenient way to supplement art programming which has been on the decline in schools for some time. A broad exposure to the arts can enhance academic performance, increase graduation rates and even improve SAT scores. The kit arrives in the mail with complete supplies, a welcome sticker poster and specially designed activity book unique to each kit. Crafts for two separate age groups are available, ages 3-7 and 7 and up. Kits are designed as gender neutral. Sign up anytime at $22 per month. wassenBox automatically renews until you cancel. Sign up here: www.wassenbergartcenter.org. or call 419.238.6837.

If your young artist prefers hands on, students can sign up for our ArtReach after school art program any month and stop if schedules become hectic then sign up again when convenient! With cooped up winter coming on, art can be a great outlet! This art program also provides much needed support in the arts which assist a myriad of academics, like improved math and critical thinking skills. Our instructor Gabriel Yahl is a, professional artist and art educator with 10-plus years of art experience. Please contact the art center to sign up, scholarships available.
