Petrie VW County Spelling Bee champion

Crestview Middle School student Brady Petrie won the 2020 Van Wert County Spelling Bee held at the Marsh Foundation on Monday evening. his parents are Brad and Erica Petrie.

The second- place finisher was Samantha Schotters, daughter of Talin Schotters, while the third-place finisher was Aaron Reichert, son of Gary and Julie Reichert. Students from 13 schools competed for the right to represent Van Wert County.

Van Wert Federal Savings Bank was the sponsor of the county spelling bee.

Petrie will now compete in the 66th annual Journal Gazette Spelling Bee presented by STAR Financial Bank on March 7.

More than 12,000 students compete to participate in the Regional Spelling Bee held at Purdue University at Fort Wayne’s recital hall in the Rhinehart Music Center. The Regional Spelling Bee winner will represent 15 counties in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio at the Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, D.C. in May 2020.
