Delphos St. John’s dominated Van Wert in non-conference boys basketball action on Tuesday while, while the Lady Cougars fell on the road to powerful Bryan. Meanwhile, the Crestview Lady Knights improved to 10-9 with a sizable road win at Celina.

Delphos St. John’s 61 Van Wert 34

DELPHOS — Isaac Fairchild hit the first five treys he put up to help lead Delphos St. John’s past Van Wert 61-34 at Robert Arnzen Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

In addition, the Blue Jays (12-5) went on an 18-0 run that spanned the end of the first quarter and the entire second period.

Delphos St. John’s raced out to a 12-3 first quarter lead before Owen Treece converted a pair of free throws and Jake Hilleary knocked down a three pointer to pull the Cougars to within four, 12-8. Fairchild, who had one triple early in the period, drained two straight to end the quarter, giving the Blue Jays an 18-11 lead.

In the second quarter, Fairchild connected on three more treys, while Brady Parrish added four points to boost the halftime lead to 36-11. Fairchild went on to finish the game with 20 points, while Parrish netted 16 points, followed by Brady Grothaus (11).

A 15-8 scoring advantage gave the hosts a 51-19 lead entering the fourth quarter, and most of the final period was played by reserves from both teams.

Hilleary led Van Wert with 10 points, while Owen Treece and Colin Place each scored seven for the Cougars, who were plagued by 18 turnovers and were out-rebounded 30-14.

Van Wert won the junior varsity game 60-39.

Delphos St. John’s will play at Parkway on Friday, while Van Wert (4-13) will host Elida the same night and St. Henry on Saturday night.

Crestview 72 Celina 37 (girls)

CELINA — Crestview was too much for Celina, as the Lady Knights rolled a 72-37 non-conference win on Tuesday night.

After leading 12-10 after the first quarter, Crestview exploded for 28 second quarter points and led 40-19 at halftime. The Lady Knights were able to extend the lead to 59-29 after three quarters.

Lexi Gregory led the way with 25 points in just three quarters, including 11 in the second period. Bailey Gregory added 11 points and Laci McCoy chipped in with 10 points, with six of those coming in the third quarter. Kylie Etzler registered nine points and Olivia Cunningham had eight, all in the second period.

Taylor Klingshirn led Celina (4-14) with nine points.

Crestview (10-9) will host Lincolnview on Thursday night.

Bryan 52 Van Wert 41 (girls)

BRYAN — Bryan gradually pulled away for a 52-41 non-conference win over Van Wert on Tuesday night.

The Lady Cougars trailed 14-9 after the first quarter, 32-26 at halftime and 38-31 after three quarters. Van Wert’s Jaylyn Rickard scored nine of her 12 points in the first half, while Carlee Young, Jamison Clouse and Jerica Huebner each added six points.

Bryan (15-4) was led in scoring by Shallyn Miley, who had a game high 16 points, with 10 coming from the foul line. As a team, the Golden Bears were 21 of 25 from the free throw line.

Van Wert (4-15) will return to action Thursday at Elida.
