Soups vs. Soups! We still have room for some more sign ups! This yummy soup recipe competition is open to both amateur chefs and the pros. A $10 fee secures your spot to win cash, a bragging trophy, a Wass mug and glowing recognition.

Following the Main Street Van Wert Chocolate Walk on February 7, we open our doors to the sugar-buzzed, the cold, and the hungry to offer hot, yummy soups, and you get to vote for your favorite. To enter the contest, email or call 419.238.6837. In addition this night we will be pairing Girl Scout cookies and wine and hosting live music by duo David Holbrook and Denny Altaffer. Cash bar. Free entry to the art center, open to the public, no tickets required.

“Daughters” an acrylic painting by Mike Huffman, who returns in March to teach at the Wassenberg Art Center.

During Soups vs. Soups the second installment of our Watercolor Winter exhibit will open February 7. The American Watercolor Society features U.S. and international artists who have advanced to this national level of competition. Most of the paintings are for sale and can make an excellent investment.

Paint your own Squishies! Our third round of wassenBoxes will be shipping soon and are a great idea for Valentines Day! Each box arrives in your mailbox monthly, is designed and created by the Wassenberg staff, – so each box is unique. This is an economical and convenient way to supplement art programming which has been on the decline in schools for some time. The kit arrives in the mail complete with supplies, a welcome sticker poster and a specially designed activity/instruction book. Crafts for two separate age groups are available, ages 3-7 and 7 and up. Kits are gender neutral. Sign up anytime at $22 per month. wassenBox automatically renews until you cancel. Sign up here: or call 419.238.6837 for alternative ways to participate.

If your young artist prefers hands on, students can sign up for our ArtReach after school art program any month and stop if schedules become hectic then sign up again when convenient! With cooped up winter coming on, art can be a great outlet! This art program also provides much needed support in the arts which assist a myriad of academics, like improved math and critical thinking skills. Our instructor Gabriel Yahl is a, professional artist and art educator with 10-plus years of art experience. Please contact the art center to sign up, scholarships available.
