Police arrest suspect in armed robbery

An arrest has been made in the robbery at the Lassus BP Handy Dandy convenience store on North Washington Street Tuesday evening.

Taylor Alan Vannett, 21, no address listed, was arrested Wednesday morning in Defiance and is being charged with armed robbery, a felony of the first degree.

According to the Van Wert Police Department, Vannett has confessed to the robbery, while a news release also called the arrest a “well-coordinated effort between several law enforcement agencies”. Other agencies involved include the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Defiance Police Department, and Defiance County Sheriff’s Office.

The VWPD had said the robbery took place around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. An initial hearing will be held on the charge.
