Book grant…

Van Wert Early Childhood Center recently received a $200 grant from The Ohio Federation of Teachers that allowed them to purchase books through First Books, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to get books into children’s hands. Van Wert Federation of Teachers President Jeff Hood contacted Jen Arend, VWECC literacy coach, when he heard of this opportunity. Through their collaboration, they were able to purchase 78 books for ECC students to share throughout their classrooms. VWECC implements the Literacy Collaborative model to ensure all students become literate while preparing them for college and career. Part of the Literacy Collaboration initiative is to build classroom libraries full of high-quality books that children can access daily.
