VW independent sports/submitted information

MINSTER — Van Wert is district bound after finishing fourth out of 13 teams at the Division II Minster girls bowling sectional at Community Lanes on Saturday.

The Lady Cougars started fast and were second after the first traditional game but after the second and third traditional games, they found themselves in third place with a slim 19-pin lead over Minster.

In the six game baker portion of play, the team couldn’t quite find the right player combination and found themselves in fifth place with one game left to qualify for the fourth and final spot for the district tournament.

In the sixth and final baker game the combination of Lorrie Decker, Katie Hauter and Hannah Say put three strikes together in the fifth, sixth and seventh frames then in the ninth frame, then Makenna Nagel set Decker up with a spare conversion going into the 10th frame.

Decker made a great shot but left a 7-pin but made the spare conversion and threw a solid strike on the final and last ball to move on to the district tournament by jumping around New Bremen for the final qualifying spot by 25 pins.

In the individual traditional portion, Decker had a solid fourth place finish and Nagel, a freshman, rode a solid performance to a 19th place finish.

The Division II district will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at Westgate Lanes in Lima. The top three teams and top three individuals will move on to the Division II State tournament in Columbus on Saturday, February 29.
