VW independent/submitted information

Local gasoline prices are mostly below the state average on Monday, according to online gas price site GasBuddy.

Several stations share the low gas price in Van Wert, with Murphy USA in the Towne Center shopping center, both Pak-A-Sak Marathon stations on South Shannon and North Washington, the Lassus Handy Dandy station on North Washington, and the Casey’s General Store and Shell stations on South Washington are all selling gasoline at $2.23 a gallon.

Three other stations, the Brookside Marathon station on West Main, and the Sunoco stations on North Washington and East Main are all selling gas at $2.39 a gallon, a penny over the state average.

Ohio gas prices have risen 8.2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.38per gallon on Monday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 5,345 stations. Gas prices in Ohio are 16.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 15.2 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Ohio is priced at $2.03 per gallon, while the most expensive is $2.95 per gallon, a difference of 92 cents per gallon. The cheapest price in the entire country today stands at $1.71/g per gallon, while the most expensive is $100.60 per gallon, a difference of $98.89 per gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has risen seven-tenths of a gallon in the last week, averaging $2.43 per gallon on Monday. The national average is down 12.1 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 11.5 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

“Oil prices rebounded last week on word that OPEC members were closely considering cutting global oil production for several months to offset the decline in demand due to the coronavirus, pushing the national average marginally higher versus a week ago,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “While it’s possible average gasoline prices will remain within arm’s reach of recent lows, unless there’s renewed or new concerns with the spread of the coronavirus, we may have seen the deepest discounted prices behind us, with some chance we’ll hold close to the lows before the seasonal rally begins in earnest.

“It wouldn’t be a bad time to fill up to hedge the chances of prices rising in the coming days,” DeHaan added.
