Harold J. Hoersten

Harold J. “Tex” Hoersten, 97, of Van Wert, passed away at 1:45 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2020, at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born January 6, 1923, in Ottoville, the son of Louis Hoersten and Catherine (Fishbach) Hoersten, who both preceded him in death. 

Harold retired from Fruehauf Trailer after many years driving truck.  

Harold was a United States Army veteran serving in Korea, and was a member of the Rockford American Legion and St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert.

Harold enjoyed spending as much times as he could out West. He was also an avid bowler and golfer and enjoyed working in his yard.  

Surviving are a brother, John Hoersten of Rockford; and a sister, Jeanette Black of Payne. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Eddie Hoersten, Rita Adams, Ike Hoersten, Richard “Bud” Hoersten, Roger Hoersten, Mary Bullinger, and Betty Daeger.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 28, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Stanley Szybka officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ottoville.

Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, February 27, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, where a rosary service will be held at 7 that evening. 

Memorial contributions in Harold`s memory may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
