Area symphony orchestra plans concert

VW independent/submitted information

CELINA — The Grand Lake Symphony Orchestra is preparing for its Winter Concert, which is scheduled for this Sunday, March 8, starting at 3 p.m., at St. John Lutheran Church in Celina (the purple door church).

The concert will feature a medley of songs from two musicals, Les Miserables and April in Paris, an early 250 birthday tribute to Ludwig Van Beethoven (born in December 1770) with the Fifth Movement of his Pastoral Symphony, the overture to Verdi’s Nabucco, Holst’s “Song Without Words”, “Soliloquy for Orchestra” by McBrien, and the popular Cab Calloway tune from the 1950s: “Minnie the Moocher”.

The orchestra currently has 35 volunteer musicians from the west central Ohio area, but is always looking for additional members who play simply because it is something they enjoy (the orchestra is especially in need of oboe and bassoon players).

Those interested should email the conductor, Jim Huckemeyer, at glso@bright.net. Those wanting more information on the orchestra can access its Facebook page.
