Van Wert has two wrestlers who will return to action at the Division II Norwalk district on Saturday, and three area boys basketball teams will play in the Division IV regional semifinals at Bowling Green State University on Tuesday night.

Division II wrestling

NORWALK — Van Wert’s Gabe Steyer won his first two matches at the Division II wrestling district at Norwalk High School on Friday.

The 138-pounder pinned Shelby’s Trace Thomas in 60 seconds, then followed up with a 1:42 pin of Sandusky’s Anthony Damico. He’ll wrestle Upper Sandusky’s Emery Pahl in the semifinals.

At 152 pounds, Van Wert senior wrestler Macein Bigham was pinned in 1:32 in the opening round by Mason Elson of Port Clinton, but stayed alive by pinning Vermilion’s Dillon Henry in 3:24 in a consolation match.

Van Wert sophomore Eli Kline (285) lost via pin in :53 to Sam McNulty of Perkins, who plans to play football at the Air Force Academy. Kline then lost to Nate Hayes-Poole of Ontario in his consolation match, ending his season.

Division IV basketball

BOWLING GREEN – The Division IV boys basketball regional semifinals are set at Bowling Green State University.

In a matchup of the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the final Associated Press poll, 25-0 Columbus Grove will face 25-0 Antwerp at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Stroh Center, followed by Parkway (18-7) and Tiffin Calvert (20-6).

The Archers qualified by defeating Toledo Christian 55-50 in the Defiance district title game on Friday night, while the Bulldogs handled Kalida 58-49 to capture the Elida district championship.

The Panthers earned their first ever regional berth with a 41-31 district championship win over Marion Local at Wapakoneta on Friday, and Calvert advanced by winning the Findlay district 53-36 over Arlington.
