Fire runs…

Van Wert firefighters were called out twice on Saturday to Bob Evans Restaurant on West Ervin Road for suspicion of fire. The first call was at 11:20 a.m., while the second call was at 12:25 p.m. According to firefighters at the scene, smoldering mulch beneath the foundation of the building near the restaurant’s entrance had worked its way inside the building, and employees there called the VWFD after smelling smoke. Firefighters suspected that a still-lit cigarette butt that was thrown away at the entrance caused the mulch to smolder. The incident remains under investigation, and no real damage was done to the building. photo by Bob Barnes/Van Wert independent
