Local high school bands set concert date

On Tuesday, March 10, the Van Wert High School Symphonic Band will host the Lincolnview and Crestview bands for a “Pre-Contest Exchange Concert”. This free event will be held in the Saltzgaber Music Hall of the Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio and begin at 7 p.m.

All three bands will present music to be performed at the upcoming Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) District Band Contest held later in the week. The bands will also receive an on-stage critique from Wendi Davis from Cory-Rawson High School to help them finish their preparation for contest.

The Lincolnview band, under the direction of first-year teacher Austin Ahlborn, will perform “Lexington March” by Karl King, “Chasing Sunlight” by Cait Nishimura, and “Phoenix Overture” by Benjamin Yeo. The band will perform at the OMEA event at Celina High School at 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 13.

The Crestview band, under the direction of Jason Lozer, will perform “Advance March” by Harold Bennett, “A Time to Reflect” by James Swearingen, and “Beyond the Challenge” by Ed Huckeby. Crestview will perform at the OMEA event at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14.

The VWHS band, under the direction of Robert Sloan, will perform “Klang” by Andrew Boysen Jr., “Chant and Jubilo” by W. Francis McBeth, and “Farthest Sea” by Shuhei Tamura. Van Wert will perform at the OMEA contest at noon Saturday, March 14.
